ALPHA COURSE

We aim to regularly run Alpha Courses in our Parish or in Wisborough Green Parish.

We are planning to run our next Alpha Course in January 2025. Clive, our Vicar, writes:

"As a Vicar I often hear throw away comments this time of year like, 'Christmas is really all about the kids.' 'It's a nice story, but no one believes it nowadays'. Well, this may be you, if it is, I would like to offer a new year challenge. How about coming along to our Alpha Supper Party on Friday January 10th at 7pm at the Vicarage in Wisborough Green. We will provide the meal, and it's an opportunity to watch a video entitled 'Is there more to life than this?' followed by a chance to ask those questions that you could never ask in your school R.E. lessons.

If you're interested in doing the Alpha course, we can try and fit around your busy schedule to a day and time that suits you. In the past we've run breakfast Alpha, lunchtime sessions and probably the most popular, evening Alpha preceded by a meal. For anyone who is not familiar with the Alpha Course, it’s an 11-week series of weekly talks addressing different aspects of Christian faith and spirituality. Each evening consists of socialising over a meal, then listening to a talk (either on video or by a guest speaker), followed by a discussion over coffee with fellow participants in small groups – with any and all views & opinions being welcome. It really is an opportunity to explore for yourself, in a relaxed and informal setting, what Christianity has to offer – and to enjoy yourself in the process!

Although the Alpha Course was originally developed in a Church of England parish (Holy Trinity Brompton), it is not exclusive to any denomination or style of Christianity, but is endorsed by all the major Christian denominations, including Church of England, Roman Catholic, Baptist, Presbyterian, Methodist, Pentecostal, Salvation Army and Free Churches. Thousands of Alpha Courses have been run worldwide since the course was developed in its current form about 30 years ago.

The course is open to everyone, especially those wanting to investigate Christianity, new Christians & churchgoers, or anyone wanting to ‘brush up on the basics’. There is no charge, though donations to help cover costs are welcome. And it doesn’t matter if you miss an evening or two – just come along to the next one.
