THE FRIENDS OF ST JOHN THE BAPTIST, KIRDFORD AND HOLY TRINITY, PLAISTOW
In our parish we are fortunate in having two historic and attractive church buildings: the Grade-1 listed medieval church of St John the Baptist in Kirdford and the Victorian church of Holy Trinity in Plaistow. However, like all old buildings, they are continuously in need of repair and renovation.
So in the Autumn of 2000, our Vicar at that time, the Rev Stuart Kersley, suggested that we might start a ‘Friends of the churches’ organisation to raise money for the repair and upkeep of the fabric these important heritage buildings. Since then the Friends have truly put the 'fun' into fundraising by organising a series of enjoyable annual events such as Jazz on the Green and a golf competition, attracting great support from the community and raising up to £10,000 per year, all of which has been spent on urgent repairs and renovations to both churches.
Information about any forthcoming Friends events will be listed on our “forthcoming events” page (click on “services and events” above). If you wish to become a member of the Friends please contact the secretary, Jane Tomkins (contact details in the Parish News) or the Vicar (click on “contact” above for contact details).
